Days 1:
Kampala - Lake Mburo
Upon your arrival in Kampala, your guide will warmly welcome you and assist you with a brief hotel check-in. After settling in, you’ll embark on a scenic drive to Lake Mburo National Park. Along the way, marvel at the rolling hills, scattered acacia woodlands, and grazing herds of Ankole cattle. Upon arrival at Lake Mburo, enjoy a tranquil evening boat ride on the lake, where you’ll spot hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. Later, retire to your lodge for a restful night amidst the park’s serene surroundings.
Day 2:
Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch
Start your day with an exciting game drive through Lake Mburo National Park, where you’ll encounter zebras, impalas and other wildlife unique to this park. Afterward, travel to the Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch, a sanctuary dedicated to the conservation of rhinos. Here, embark on a guided walking safari to observe these majestic animals up close in their natural habitat. Spend time learning about the conservation efforts before heading to your lodge for the night.
Day 3:
Murchison Falls National Park
After breakfast, journey northward to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and most famous wildlife reserve. Upon arrival, stop at the top of the falls, where the mighty Nile squeezes through a narrow gorge and plunges into a roaring cascade. The sight and sound of the falls are truly awe-inspiring. Check into your lodge, where you’ll unwind and enjoy a delicious dinner in preparation for the adventures ahead.
Day 4:
Wildlife Safari and Nile Cruise
Rise early for a thrilling morning game drive across the savannah, where you’ll spot lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and various antelope species. In the afternoon, embark on a boat cruise along the Nile to the base of Murchison Falls. Along the way, keep an eye out for crocodiles basking on the riverbanks, pods of hippos in the water and a myriad of bird species, including the iconic shoebill stork. The day ends with a relaxing evening back at your lodge.
Day 5:
Journey to Lake Bunyonyi
Leave Murchison Falls behind and journey to Lake Bunyonyi, a breathtaking destination known for its serene waters and lush terraced hills. Upon arrival, enjoy a leisurely canoe ride or relax on the lake’s shores, taking in the tranquil ambiance. For those interested, a short hike to explore the surrounding villages and learn about the local Batwa culture can be arranged. Spend the night at a lakeside lodge, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.
Day 6:
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
After breakfast, proceed to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, home to some of the last remaining mountain gorillas in the world. Spend your day exploring the park’s scenic trails, which offer stunning views of the Virunga Volcanoes. Engage in optional activities such as a cultural visit to the Batwa community or a short nature walk. Prepare for the highlight of your trip the following day: gorilla trekking.
Day 7:
Departure
Conclude your safari with an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience. After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before venturing into the dense forest with expert guides. Witnessing these gentle giants in their natural habitat is a profound and humbling experience. After your trek, return to your lodge to freshen up before making your way back to Kampala, where your adventure concludes.
